There are so many good videos out there on YouTube and I love browsing through them to see some of the insane hotrods that people have put together, or watching handy DIY tutorials when customizing your car. something you don’t see very often is weird car habits.
If you have your own custom car YouTube channel, or found an awesome video that you want to share, drop me an email at natasha[AT]customcarsworld.com.
10 weird car habits
The guys at Car Throttle have brought us another good one with their list of 10 weird car habits. This one I liked because it appeals to the driver in all of us and custom car or not, I’m pretty sure you’re going to enjoy it.
Trying to nail your fuel payment target
This is a hard habit to break. Do you suffer from OCD? I know I do. Nothing bugs me more than going over a round number by a few cents. I will admit, I don’t go so far that I’ll make it to the next whole dollar, but I will feel annoyed.
Having the radio volume on even numbers
Some of you with the retro cars might not even have a radio with numbers on it, just the little dial. But for those with OCD, unless the volume is on an even number, you just can’t concentrate.
Wiggling the gear stick from side to side
This is one of the most bizarre weird car habits. Do you do this? I definitely do, especially when I’m waiting at the lights. Why? Who knows! The guy in the video claims he’s checking it’s in neutral which I guess is one excuse, but the upside is, it’s totally unnecessary.
Listening out for rattles
If you don’t do this, I’m willing to bet you know someone who does, and how annoying is that?
Waving at anyone who drives the same car
This isn’t necessarily true for your more every day car like a Ford Focus but when it comes to own a Mazda MX5 or a Mustang 302 Boss, you just can’t help but wave at people with the same car, irrelevant of whether you know them and irrelevant of how strange you look to everyone else…
Making sure the windows are level
I can honestly say that I’ve never come across this one, but my goodness is that OCD on a whole new level. I guess it must drive you mad if you’ve not got those fancy automatic windows…
I think this weird car habit is a bit British. I mean, I don’t know how many people know who he is or whether he ever made it to the States, but I’m pretty sure there’s an American equivalent.
Having predetermined cruise controls increments
Okay so this one is only for those of you with cruise control so we’re looker at the newer models. But do you feel like you have to go up in multiples of 5? It’s a bit like the radio thing all over again.
Perfecting your parallel park position
I will admit, I do suffer from this one – but only a little. I mean, I like to leave a nice tidy parking position, who doesn’t?
Resting your hand on the gear stick
This one, I feel, is a habit for many. I definitely drive with my hand on the gear stick. It’s comfortable more than anything – at least that’s my excuse – and a habit that’s impossible to break.
How many have you ticked from the list? Can you name any more?
